Yes, it can happen here folks.  

You see that icy patch, stretching out across Lake Michigan, that resembles what could have been an airport? It once was. I personally remember picnicking at the park, watching the planes take off and land at Meigs Field, after visiting the Field Museum and the King Tut exhibit. Well, one night, in the cloak of darkness, the Honorable Post 9/11 Mayor Richard Daley II decided that Meigs Field was a security risk and had the runways cut up with aircraft on the ramp. 

The remaining aircraft had to be ferried off the field using taxiways. This total affront to General Aviation has gone unchallengened, as no one has stood up to hold Mayor Daley accountable for unilaterally destroying a vital part of the Nation's air transportation infrastructure. No one.
